How to bill items which qualify for more than one HCPCS code depending on application.

When billing Prosthetic socks, the same physical item, depending on the size of the sock and the size of the client’s residual limb can be billed as L8420 for “PROSTHETIC SOCK, MULTIPLE PLY, BELOW KNEE, EACH” or L8430 for “PROSTHETIC SOCK, MULTIPLE PLY, ABOVE KNEE, EACH”.

Step 1 Enter the HCPCS code on the Tie combining the two codes with a separator character such as “/” or “?” between the important parts, such as “L8420/30”.
Step 2 When the user enters an Order for the item, the HCPCS codes will be “L8420/30”. This should suggest to the user the need to choose either L8420 or L8430 depending on the application of the item (A/K or B/K).

TIP: If the user does not choose/correct the HCPCS code, the system will warm them when they click on the Intellicheck button or calculate the Orders. In either case, it will not allow a Claim to be submitted with this invalid HCPCS code.
